Academic English

This English language course has four different levels from pre-intermediate to advanced and develops writing, reading, speaking, listening skills for tertiary study. Students who study in this English course can prepare for the IELTS, FCE, TOEFL or TOEIC exams. International students can enrol for 4 to 96 weeks.

The programme offers a balance of language development and exam preparation, both of which are necessary for achieving a good exam result.

The academic English language course with exam preparation is offered in Wellington and Palmerston North.
Course Purpose:
This programme is particularly suitable for students who need to get a score of at least 6.0 on the IELTS pre-University entrance test of English language. The course will develop students academic English skills in the four main skill areas of listening, reading, speaking and writing and prepare them for the IELTS examination.
Opportunities to use and listen to English outside the classroom will also be given with trips and activities generally organised weekly.
IELTS
Is the worlds proven English test. Over 1.4 million candidates take the test each year to start their journey into international education and employment. IELTS is recognised as an entrance requirement by British, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian universities and for secondary, vocational and training programmes.

FCE
First, commonly known as First Certificate in English (FCE), is an exam for people who need to prove they can use everyday written and spoken English at an upper-intermediate level for work or study purposes.
TOEIC
The test of English for International Communication evaluates the ability to use English in an international working environment. International companies use TOEIC scores for assessment and employee selection.
TOEFL
The TOEFL measures the ability to use and understand English at the university level. And it evaluates how well students combine listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks.
