Palmerston North is a university town, which encourages high standards for education in the city. ETC is Palmerston North’s largest English language school with an excellent reputation for delivering results. Our teachers are all well qualified and excellent communicators. The spacious campus has 15 classrooms, 3 computer suites with free internet access, 4 student lounges with free tea and coffee, a student library and 2 kitchens equipped with cooking facilities. The recreation space offers table tennis and a pool table. ETC Head Office is also located on the campus.
Balconies overlooking an inner city park and the main shopping and restaurant district are great for relaxing with classmates and socialising outside of class time. The public library, local museum and art gallery are a five minute walk away. For rugby enthusiasts, the National Rugby Museum is close by. Palmerston North has a bustling café scene with great coffee, French inspired pastries and fresh salads available until late. The ETC student card gives free access to public transport around Palmerston North, which students in homestay accommodation find very useful.
ETC Palmerston North is one of a few internationally selected Pre IELTS Testing Centres where students are able to trial IELTS reading and listening tests without any cost.

City
Known as New Zealand’s Student City, Palmerston North has a population of over 88,000. Massey University’s main campus is located here. The city has excellent high schools and other tertiary institutes. The city is in Manawatu, the centre of the North Island, with close proximity to Wellington (150 km; 2 hours by car), the famous Tongariro National Park ski fields and Lake Taupo (270 km; 3 hours by car), New Zealand’s Art Deco capital, Napier (2 hours by car), and rural Taranaki (3 hours by car). There are transport links (road, bus, and plane) to popular tourist centres further afield such as Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown for weekend travel. Surrounding Palmerston North city you will find beautiful farmland blended with walking tracks in the Tararua and Ruahine Ranges. There is a citywide cycle track and local beaches are 30 minutes (by car) away.
